Exactly 115 years after the opening ceremony of the town hall building (Sunday September 27, 1903), residents and visitors to Rokytnice nad Jizerou can now enter the town hall attic and climb the 88 stairs to the viewing balcony of the 37m high town hall tower.

To open the tower to the public, structural modifications were made to the internal stairways, which wove literally between the clock’s mechanical parts, controls and other supporting structures. At the same time, the clockwork was modernised and replaced by electronic devises, with the original clock remaining in the tower as an exhibit. Other modifications were made to ensure safety and comfort when moving within the grounds and town hall tower.

The tower construction was carried out in 2017-2018 by the company Prima spol. s r.o. using plans drawn up by Ing. Arch. Jan Heller. The clock tower modernisation, including the preservation of the original clockwork, new face paintings and other related activities, was overseen by Dipl. Ing. Ivan Šmerda.
