Description

Rokytnice nad Jizerou

is a recreational and tourist centre in the western Giant Mountains, sought-after for sports, hiking and relaxation all year round. In summer, the centre offers tennis courts, a rope centre, go-karts, off-road scooters and a popular bike park. In winter period there are two ski resorts opened - Studenov and Horní Domky. The highest climbing point (1,315 m above sea level), the vastness of the area and length of the tracks rank the ski area in Rokytnice nad Jizerou among the best resorts in the Czech Republic. Světlanka Mountain Chalet is located directly on the longest red FIS track (2.5 km).

Světlanka Mountain Chalet

It is a homestead dating back to the 19th century when it served to the local farmers. It had been rebuilt to an inn in the early 20th century by the owner, Mr. Körber. At present it is a recreational building belonging to Škoda Auto a.s., and it is fully used by the general public. For its unique location and spirit, it is an ideal place for your active holiday both in winter and summer.

The accommodation is situated partly in a typical mountain chalet, where tourist bedrooms are available with cold and hot water, and with shared showers and toilets on the floor. Standard 2-6- bed rooms with private bathroom facilities are available at the hotel. The total capacity is 120 beds. Throughout the year we offer organizing of training, teambuilding, ski schools and camps.

Boarding

The restaurant including a bar, situated on the ground floor of the chalet, is all-day open and we will be very glad to welcome also random visitors. We serve traditional Czech cuisine using top quality local ingredients from our daily menu. To extinguish your thirst, we offer our national treasure – Pilsner Urquell.

For the chalet and hotel guests we provide full board or half board. Breakfast is served as a buffet, with a choice of morning drinks.

Wi-Fi, our own children's ski lift, table tennis, darts, sauna, ball games court, children's mini playground including a slide, sandpit and swing, trampoline, pétanque pitch, Russian skittles, outdoor fireplace.

Transport

About 130 km, two hours by car from Prague via Jičín and Jilemnice. You will drive through the whole Rokytnice (approx. 4.5km) to the Upper Square (Horní náměstí), there, after 300 m, turn left beyond the football field to the parking lot at Starý Mlýn Hotel.

In winter, the transport of luggage, or persons, is provided by a snow cat, snow scooter or off-road vehicle. It is necessary to leave the car in a nonstop guarded parking lot in Rokytnice at Starý Mlýn Hotel. In summer, it is possible to drive up to the chalet after agreement for a fee.

Trips and surroundings

The environment is suitable for hiking tours as well as for less demanding hiking trips on the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains (e.g. the route – Dvoračky, Kotelní jámy (Kotel pits), Hanč and Vrbata Memorial, Zlaté návrší (Golden Hillock), Labská bouda, Violík, Tvarožník, Vosecká chalet, the Trail of the Czech-Polish friendship to Harrachov, and others).

You can also go for a trip to Jilemnice (Krkonoše Museum and František Kaván Gallery in the chateau and the exposition of a mechanical nativity scene by Jáchym Metelka, the history of skiing, indoor swimming pool, etc. The town and sports resort of Vrchlabí is located eight kilometres to the east.

The distinct peak of the border ridge with Poland is the highest mountain of the Czech Republic – Sněžka (1,602 m). The first climb to the peak was made in 1456 and today's name Sněžka has been used since 1823. It is a steep rocky massif, of which southern scree slopes steeply fall into the Giant Mine. The western ridge descends to Úpa peat bog. In the southeast direction, there is a rugged Růžová hora (Pink Mountain). From Pec pod Sněžkou you can go via Pink Mountain to Sněžka, from where you can admire a beautiful view of the surroundings.
